Back to school...

Finished my first week of classes, and I survived. I must say, spending 15 hours in the classroom this week was definitely a shock to the system, and a bit of a damper on the five-month long vacation I have been enjoying… C’est la vie.
I am taking six hours of French grammar, three hours of French phonetics, three hours of French history and three hours of French literature. All are lecture style classes that last for three hours at a time. In French. Content wise, I understood everything that was said in class. But, by the end of every day I had a pretty sizable headache and no remaining capacity to retain information. Hopefully it will get easier to process information quickly in French – and hopefully I will be able to respond more quickly to questions as time goes on.
I have been spending some good time with people who live in my building. There are some great people here – a few Moroccans, some Mexicans, a couple Germans, a handful of other Americans, and a whole lot of French. Kaitlin made a yummy dinner for some of our Moroccan friends last week, and they have promised us a classic Moroccan meal sometime next week… can’t wait! I just hope it tastes something like Lebanese food. No shortage of good Lebanese restaurants in this city, though! I have already found a favorite ‘hole in the wall’ café that smells like Sitti’s kitchen and tastes almost as good ☺.
I booked my ticket to Prague for Thanksgiving! That’s the only official travel plans I have at the moment (leaving Nov. 26, returning Dec. 1). The trip should be a good one – I am meeting up with lots of friends from Boulder to spend Thanksgiving together and celebrate several birthdays over the course of one short weekend... Other plans at the moment include a trip to Germany for Fall Vacation and a weekend trio to Grenoble sometime in early November. I’ll keep you updated with dates and locations… But if anyone has friends or connections in Germany, I would love to know about them!
I am still falling in love with this city… especially the little café that is less than a block away from where I live. A great spot to sit morning, noon, or night. And the staff already knows Kaitlin and me since we stop by for cafés almost daily…
I think that’s all for now, I need to get a nap in before nightfall. There is an all night festival in Paris tonight called “Nuit Blanche” – all the museums and tons of special expositions are open to the public all night long. Should be a great night!
Love to you all, talk to you soon! Skype me!
